A team from N otre D am e com peted in the 14th annual Notre Dame Invitational Mas te r ’s of Business A dm in istra tion (MBA) Case Competition, w hich w as held yeste rd ay in the Center for Continuing Edu cation. The Notre Dame team com prised of Curt M itchke, Mike M organ, and Thom as Pram e faired well in the competition, but lost to the team from Uni versity of Texas at Austin. The o ther th ree universities participating in the competition w e re D uke U n iv e rs ity , G eorgetow n U n iversity , and Ohio State University. Each university had one team m ad e up of th re e MBA s tu dents. In the competition, stu dents were told to analyze and define the nature of the prob lem of a tro u b le d b u s in e ss . The p rob lem w as a non-fictional one about Nouvell Com pu ters and its battle with Mi croso ft. P reviously , Nouvell took o v er W o rd p e rfe c t an d Cuatro Pro. The question to be answ ered in com petition was “W h ere sh o u ld N ouvell go now?” The team s w ere to p re se n t po ssib le so lu tio n s c o n cerning this question to a panel of judges. In describ ing the n a tu re of the competition, Paul Conway, associate professor of finance and facilitator of the com peti tio n s a id , “The u n iv e rs it ie s have twenty-four hours to han dle a business, twenty minutes to m ake a p re se n ta tio n , and tw e n ty -f iv e m in u te s to be quizzed by the judges.”
